Why Bay Credit Union?

Bay Credit Union (BCU) was founded March 15, 1946. The original name for the organization was People’s Co-Operative Credit Union. The aim was to serve the Finnish population in their mother language and thus at the beginning the members were all Finns. The name was changed in 1975 when the organization faced some changes and moved to its’ own location.

Currently, BCU has approximately 3370 members from various nationalities. The organization is run by the Board of Directors that consists of nine members and is elected at annual meetings. The board has approximately 13 meetings yearly. In addition, there are four committees: Audit Committee, which is the only mandatory committee, Policy Committee, Social Responsibility Committee and Marketing Committee that meet regularly. The duties of the Audit Committee are to monitor financial matters, budget analysis, risk management controls, and the review of possible or potential conflict of interest issues. The manager, Lea Matyuska, leads the operational functions.
