Our History + Our Team

BAY Credit Union was founded in 1946 as People’s Co-operative Credit Union Limited. It began its operation to serve the large Finnish-speaking population of Port Arthur. Once it started serving all of Thunder Bay in 1975, it became Bay Credit Union.

In the fall of 2014, Bay Credit Union announced that it was in negotiations to merge with Apple Community Credit Union. Apple Community Credit Union was incorporated in 1951 as Abitibi Provincial Paper Mill Employees’ Credit Union Limited. In 1998, the Credit Union became open to serve the whole community and its name was changed to APPLE Community Credit Union. Over the years, two other Abitibi credit unions, two Elevator credit unions and the CNR credit union joined Apple Community.

These credit unions joined forces to form a truly local credit union, with two branches serving over 5,000 members, staffing 17 employees, and holding over $60 million in assets.

BAY Credit Union prides itself on providing its members with friendly and responsive service. We offer competitively priced services and packages for our membership.

Bank in person, via ATM, on-line, or by phone. We offer personalized service and products, everything that you would find at a bank but at cost to our members!

We are jointly owned by our customers – our members! And, because we are locally owned, every penny of our profit goes back into expanding services, paying dividends and loan rebates to our members, and to serving our local community.
