Our History & Team
We were founded in 1946 as the People’s Co-operative Credit Union Limited to serve the large Finnish-speaking population of Port Arthur. Once we started serving all of Thunder Bay in 1975, we became BAY Credit Union.

Our merger with Apple Community Credit Union
In 2014, we began negotiations to merge with Apple Community Credit Union, originally incorporated in 1951 as Abitibi Provincial Paper Mill Employees’ Credit Union Limited. In 1998, they opened to serve the whole community and changed their name to Apple Community Credit Union. Over the years, two other Abitibi credit unions, two Elevator credit unions, and the CNR credit union joined Apple Community.
These credit unions joined forces to form a truly local credit union, with two branches serving over 4,500 members, staffing over 20 employees, and holding over $90 million in assets.
We are jointly owned by our customers–our members.
BAY Credit Union prides itself on providing members with friendly and responsive service. We offer competitively priced services and packages.
Bank in person, via ATM, online, or by phone. We offer personalized service and products you would find at a bank, but, at a lower cost. Because we are locally owned, every penny of our profit goes back into expanding services, paying dividends and loan rebates to our members, all while serving our local community.
